I finally figured out why rice from Indian restaurants is so much more delicious -- a lot of ghee and some cumin seeds. Before when I added butter or oil it just was not the same.
Ingredients:
1 cup basmati rice
2 cups water
2 Tb ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp salt
Optional:
Fresh cilantro leaves
Wash the rice and soak it for 30 min.
Heat ghee in a saucepan on medium heat and add the cumin seeds. When the cumin seeds start to pop, add the rice (drained), water and salt, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat, cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Set aside for 5 minutes covered. Optional: garnish with a few fresh cilantro leaves.
